We desperately need a new hospital in West Herts - after the closure of A&E in Hemel people are forced to travel to Watford which is struggling terribly. The Leave campaign told us that voting out would free up £350m per week to spend on the NHS. Now that the decision has been made, it's time they put their money where their mouth is.

Hi Richard - I didn't realise that Herts Valley CCG can't do anything about the decision to use funds to open a new hospital in the area - the question is - how do we then as a community get our voices heard on this? Is there a way that we (or Herts Valley CCG) can speak to NHS England to highlight the issue?

Getting people to stop using A&E as a means of treating coughs and colds I presume is about educating them on the other services available to them in the area e.g. walk in centres, gps, or giving them online information so they can manage these sorts of minor problems themselves?

Hey Fiona.

I totally agree that we need a new hospital and particularly a good casualty department in West Herts. Watford is under huge pressure. I think the first duty of the NHS is to provide excellent world class emergency services. In an emergency patients and their families don't have the presence of mind to research different options. Care has to be immediate and fit for purpose.

Two problems:

1) How do you stop people with minor problems like coughs and colds turning up at an expensive and high tech casualty with trauma experts?

2) The closure or building of a new hospital is not in the hands of Herts Valley CCG - it is NHS England that decides!
